Short Term Orthodontic Braces

Short term orthodontic (STO) braces uses time-tested techniques combined with the latest in orthodontic materials and technologies to move your teeth quickly and safely. Our STO braces technique utilizes a unique system of special brackets and wires and a unique protocol to give you the smile you always wanted in the fastest time possible. One of the key technologies is the use of titanium archwires. These wires have what is called shape memory. That means however the wire is bent, twisted, or deformed by the current improper position of your teeth the wire will return to the ideal original shape. This allows your teeth to automatically move to the desired location set by your dentist. The main focus of the STO system is to give you a great smile as quickly as possible, and most cases are completed in just 6-9 months.

STO braces are generally less expensive than other tooth straightening methods, as there are far fewer appointments required and the treatment time is greatly reduced.
With any orthodontic procedure you need to wear a retainer to maintain your final tooth positions. STO does not use the typical retainer with a large non-aesthetic wire running across the front of the teeth. Instead clear retainers that are moulded precisely to fit your teeth are used or a wire retainer is bonded behind your teeth. When you are wearing your retainer, no one will be able to see them.
Most STO braces are clear or tooth coloured and almost invisible on your teeth. The titanium archwires are also very discrete and less noticeable than the thick metal wires seen with traditional braces. These braces have a chameleon like effect blending seamlessly in with your teeth. This makes them difficult to see compared to the metal braces/brackets.
STO braces is a very safe system that has been used successfully by thousands of patients all over the world for over 20 years. There are many myths surrounding root resorption and it is one of the most misunderstood topics in dentistry. The number one cause of root resorption is genetics. You are either prone to it or you are not. It is just like high cholesterol some people can exercise all the time and eat great and their cholesterol will still be high. Other people do not exercise or eat right and their cholesterol is low. The number two cause of root resorption is the length of time you wear your braces. The longer you wear braces the more likely you will have root resorption. High force levels can also increase the amount of root resorption but with STO braces low forces are used to move your teeth. Since most of our cases are completed in a short period of time and we are using low forces to move your teeth it is highly unlikely you will experience root resorption while being treated.
